Assessment

While the teacher is working with the students on the KWL chart, teachers are assessing their students' prior knowledge.
After students present their information they gathered from their online research, teachers go around and assess their students' current comprehension of the planets in the solar system. Teachers can ask the students about what they know about each planet, the sun, and the moon for more details.
Another source of assessment can be on how well students conduct research based on what information they retained from the presentations and how much valuable research was found.
Teachers can also go around from student to student as they're working on their research to make sure they have accurate information and facts about their planetary features.

The assessment works with both the formative and summative assessment because I can collect what they know before the lesson and what they have learned from themselves and classmates. These assessments help me to find out what my students know about the solar system and how much they can learn from their own researching skills. This lesson surrounds both solar system comprehension and research practice. This lesson and activity only has individual work for students, so each student is practicing and learning through their own methods. I will be assessing individually with each student's presentation and with the collection of the information they gathered.
